The claim that Kolber makes in Butterfly lessons is that not only is global warming very real, it is already causing drastic changes to our environment. In “Butterfly Lessons” he says “The equilibrium warming associated with doubled CO2 is estimated to be between three and a half and seven degrees, and with tripled CO2 between six and eleven degrees. A global temperature rise of just three degrees would render the earth hotter than it has been at any point in the past two million years.” So now we know that global warming is occurring based on what he has said, but we also know that the degree of warming will far exceed the range that we have regarded as being natural for the earth to undergo. He is pointedly saying that it is in fact humans causing the problem and we don’t know what the repercussions might be. This may have to do with my issue as far as deer may go. I can remember that we used to have a lot of both deer and owls in my neighborhood. But in the past few years there hasn’t been very many of them. This could mean that they have moved away from the woods in my backyard to an environment that better suits them.
